Australian Man Charged With Driving Backwards Down Highway
Topic: Cars/Automotive

An Australian man was stopped and charged with excessively driving in reverse after going more than 25 miles backwards down the Hume Highway between Melbourne and Sidney. His reasoning was simply that it was the only gear in the car that still worked, and he had to drive 56 miles home.
Personally we would've followed at a distance instead of ticketing him, placing bets on whether or not he would've made it the whole way. It's a lot better than giving him a citation for driving an unlicensed vehicle in reverse.

Ford Motor Company Proves One Way to Get Cheaper Labor; Torture Union Bosses
Topic: Cars/Automotive

Just, wow. Ford Motor Company is being sued by Argentinian labor officials for kidnapping and torture today. The officials claimed that during the country's "Dirty War" period of 1976 - 1983, they were taken from their homes, beaten and electrically shocked during the then-dictatorship's "cleansing" of hostiles and dissidents.
Ford has been mute on the point, but now that they're being sued in a civil for assisting with the kidnappings of the union officials, it could come to bite them even more in the ass when they should be capitalizing on GM turning into a walking pile of shit.
Mercedes was also involved with kidnapped employees during this time, and even though 15 of the 18 were never found, they're not mentioned anywhere in the suit. And people wonder why we bought a Subaru...

GM Sucks; SELL SELL SELL!
Topic: Cars/Automotive

The GM death throes seem to be continuing, as a rare "sell" rating was put on the embattled company today, a first from Deutsche Bank for the automaker, which continues to stumble.
You can read the full story on Yahoo! News, but we just thought it was interesting to see one of America's biggest corporations dying. Or at least taking a firm downward aim towards bankruptcy.

And Thus Begins Our Week of 18 Hour Work Days
Topic: Cars/Automotive
Sorry for the lack of posting today. We're leaving to cover the Barrett-Jackson auction for a week, so the day has been spent ironing more shirts than we knew we owned. Check out Jalopnik (link to the left) for updates. As long as Mike and Davey decide that our sleep-deprived ramblings are worthy of posting on their fantastic blog.
So until Tuesday, January 24, we leave you with the words that inspire us daily:
16 years old is still illegal.
Peace, and check out Jalopnik!

How Not to Get a Car Out of the Snow; A Notice to All (2) of Our Northern Readers
Topic: Cars/Automotive
We head over to Jalopnik again and give a special thanks a pat on our own back to give you a great video or how you don't remove a Geo Storm from a snow bank. Make sure you watch the idiot teenagers throughout the video, as hilarity ensues and can be viewed in slow motion throughout the end.
Thanks Mike!

Journalist Fakes Mercedes Crash-Avoidance Test on TV; Crashes Cars, Gets Fired
Topic: Cars/Automotive

For the utmost of stupidity when testing brand new automobiles on television, look no closer than to Michael Sprecht. After proposing a segment on Stern TV, Sprecht approached Mercedes Benz to test the S-class's accident avoidance system, to which Mercedes engineers immediately pointed out that in the way Sprecht wanted to test the cars, they would fail in doing so.
Sprecht was adamant about the segment and attempted to "simulate" what the cars would actually do. What follows was seen all over the world. Sprecht missed his mark (a block of wood he would drive over) and smashed one of the big dollar Mercs into the back end of the one in front of him.
Now he's been fired for faking the test, even though we give him credit for proving that the system isn't as great as Mercedes originally let on. Check it out for yourself. The video has been taken down, but it's damn funny to read how this "respected" auto-journalist would fake out the cameras. See? Idiocy in journalism expands beyond America.

This Week in HoD News; We Contribute to the Greater Good!

If you own a Ford, watch out for rod knock. If you own Ford stock, you are one unlucky son of a bitch. Check out Jalopnik for the story, but pretty much not only would your stock be considered junk, but the company you invested in somehow capped their third quarter by blowing a billion dollars in revenue and ending up $284 million lower than this time last year.
That's why we drive Subaru. Everyone's fightin' to get them!

We're Popular! Or So We Think...
Topic: Cars/Automotive
Editor Mike Spinelli of the great auto blog Jalopnik (which has been linked to the left for over eight months, and if you haven't clicked on it yet, then shame on you) has recently decided to join the rest of Gawker Media and allow for comment posting on his site.
We thank Mike for the invite and hope that our brand of idiotic tipsterism can be of some use in the coming times. Look for posts by commentator TexansAreHot, because we are, in fact, hawt.
