Webmonkey, the newest
endeavor from Hotwired, is a great source for web related information.
Typographic is a tome
on the wonders of type. This may sound boring to you, but it's mightly
exciting to us designer types. Make sure to check out Anatomy of Type, assuming
you are brave enough to have Shockwave installed on you machine.

The Black Panther Coloring Book will offend a lot of people. But everyone should be offended once in awhile. Take a few minutes and check out this curious piece of history.

Seems as though all my favorite Websites take me back to
antiquated media. That being said, let me take you to the
Walker Percy project at the
University of North Carolina. The author of "The Moviegoer" and many other
fiction and non-fiction pieces is the subject of this growing composite of
video and audio clips, references to scholarly analysis and his
moving works.
On Tripod, I'm having fun in the Toybox.
Fortune tellers, poetry generators -- plus the lid won't slam on your
fingers.

The programmer in me says that
the Standard Template Library online reference
is a _must_ for serious C++ jockeys hoping to improve the quality of their
code.
Also, I'm amazed at the people who don't realize that you can read a large
part of the daily NYT online at
www.nytimes.com.
Of course, since I'm a news junkie, I check out Tripod's
Daily Scoop every morning.
It contains carefully selected headlines linked to current news stories
(including the world news headlines that other sites neglect).
Kara
DejaNews claims to be the "the largest collection of indexed archived
Usenet news anywhere!" I can't really judge, having done little research
myself after discovering this terrific resource. Find out what people are
saying about your topic in Usenet groups all over the world -- DejaNews
searches newsgroups to find any mention of your search word/phrase in a
matter of seconds...pretty damn useful!

The Cyrano Server is
for all those who are swift of heart but shy of pen. Just tell Cyrano the
name of your beloved, a few adjectives, and your preferred style (your
choices range from steamy to indecisive) and Cyrano will compose and send
the letter for you. If you've lost that loving feeling, Cyrano will also
help you dump someone electronically.

Jim Nelson's Ad Nauseum
is a clever opinion site with some astute observations sprinkled throughout
the heaping helpings of lacerating humor. There are several sections to
peruse: VERBAGE has hilarious rant spew, and lots of it -- these columns
are not for those with a short attention span for online reading; the
hilarious LIST section includes items like "Rejected Web Ads," complete
with phony (and funny) ad banners; and MINUTIA has internet and tech rumors
and conspiracy theories for the Oliver Stone in each of us.

"Freunleven! Not only did I spell it right, but when supplied with the
password
Altavista found the
Animaniacs
Quotations File in seconds flat. Are you prepared to suffer
indescribable torment? Well, go in they should let you. Hoyl!
Thanks for the tip, Jeff."

Spectacle is a fine designerly,
narrative web site that I'm happy to say is one of the finalists for the Cool Site of the Year, which is
also a nice place to visit (and vote). For a really good story of a writer
who cashed a "non-negotiable" check for $95,000, drift over to My $95,093.35
Adventure.

I've chosen The United States Postal Service Homepage. I realize it's
not the most exciting place on the web, but for me it
makes the most sense, given the amount of mail that I attend on a daily
basis. I frequently come across incomplete addresses. This site simplifies my life a
bit.

The best thing about the Fodor's site is that Tripod's rendition of the Berkeley
Guides is going to be better.
