Tripod's Toybox is reborn! Check out all the
cool gadgets, like the tarot card
reader....hey, just because we're computer geeks doesn't mean we don't
know how to have a good time!
Elsewhere, I love The Gif Animation
Thrift Shop, which answers the eternal question, where do all the
lonely anigifs go...

It's not very interactive or anything, but Ninja Tune's site is the place to go if you're a serious beathead. Order something by DJ Food, put the headphones on, spark an owl, and prepare for a wild ride.

You too can join the first Internet cult: PowerNet.Com. One of our interns, Matt
McGough, did. Complete with Internet personal empowerment sloganeering and
borderline techno-patriotism, there's no question this is a front for
something larger. You can be sure that all of Hollywood will soon be
members.

In need of an American Poetry break?
Leaf through a
version of Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass." Like:
STRANGER! if you, passing, meet me, and desire to speak to me, why
should you not speak to me?
And why should I not speak to you?
For your feistier moments, check out the Tripod
surveys, especially our
Politics & Community items. The topics (and responses)
will either feel like a kickstart for the brain or
a kick in the sensibilities, but they'll get you fixin'
to think.

The Figlet ASCII font converter is a bittersweet toy...the all too perfect
procrastination tool (as if there aren't enough of those in life anyhow).
You'll be sorry you went to check it out, since you'll end up playing
with it for awhile. But your boss will forgive you when you send her email
with her name in "lights."

Okay, so it's another corporate site, but Visa's ATM Locator is a great
tool. Type in any address in the United States, and it will spit back a map
with the addresses of the three closest ATM machines. The same site will
also tell you which airports (worldwide) have ATMs, and though it can't
locate ATMs in other countries, it can tell you which banks in other
countries accept ATM transactions. All you have to do is remember to pack
your flexible friend.

Probably the wildest discovery I've recently made outside of Tripod is Roach Online. This AOL parody, which is part of a site promoting the MTV film "Joe's Apartment," has some clever and bizarre spoofs of HotWired, Suck, Pathfinder, and the AOL chat rooms. I have no doubt that this inventive creation is better than the movie itself. Extrememely smooth presentation -- very few, er, bugs.
On the 'Pod, I have been using Reminder Minder a lot lately. It automatically sends gently nagging e-mail to refresh my memory about deadlines and meetings -- and I need all the help I can get.

In my on-going search for things to waste my time, I found the The Bingo Zone. This online Bingo is
nothing like your local Bingo parlors. I haven't won any money, but there
is hope for me yet.

The Lyrics Server is
trés bien, especially for those days when the words to a half-forgotten song
are stuck in your head. You can do a full text search or search by artist.
Now you no longer have an excuse to annoy your office with comments like:
"Come on, you have to remember this song, it went 'big old jet airliner,
don't carry me too far away,' I think."
