If we're talking Tripod, I'm really into Remember the Vote. Okay, so it's a shameless plug for my project, but it's pretty cool -- really.

Otherwise, Streetsound is probably my favorite new discovery. It's got a whole section where you can buy, swap, or just get free mix tapes from dj's all over.

For as incompetent as Nynex generally is, bigyellow.com is pretty competent. And for as more-than-competent as entrepreneurs generally are, bigbook.com is just that: more-than-competent. They give you maps! Who's going to win? Will it be the scared big boy or the hungry start-up? God I love watching a new medium develop.

The Sumex-Aim HyperArchive of Macintosh Software This is the next step in the evolution of the old sumex-aim archive. This archive once was (and some argue still is) the best source for public domain and shareware Mac software on the Internet. MIT's Laboratory for Computer Science has given the archive an HTML facelift, making it easy to navigate and search the archive. (Some consider its styling (or lack thereof) way oldschool, but that translates into minimal load times, a prime consideration when I need that disk editing utility now!)

Lynda Weinman's Homegurrrl Page is a fantastic resource for anyone who designs for the web, or anyone who is interested in learning how! She's got info on making animations, choosing background colors -- all kinds of great stuff. Scott's gonna be mad, though. He was the one who told me about this site, and now I'm proposing it myself!

On Tripod, I've been spending some serious QT on Political Playbook lately, which has always been and remains a personal favorite.

Elsewhere: Gail's Recipe Swap on Epicurious. This is terrific -- if no one has yet posted the exact recipe you're after, you can ask for it and someone will probably respond within hours. I know of 4 or 5 friends who have Recipe Swap recipes hanging on their refrigerators. I only wish there were swaps like this one for car repair...

Matt's Cyberbases is an awesome personal page emanating from Hamline University. A great use of frames, terrific net resources, and some good music links too.

Tripod's Reminder Minder is a very handy service: just tell us what you need to remember, and when you want to be reminded. We'll send you an e-mail message. Clear out some RAM.

Trying to keep track of the myriad extensions to Navigator 2.0? Put all your ducks in a row at Browserwatch's Plug-in Plaza. A comprehensive listing of extensions to Navigator, including download sites, sample files and info on platform compatibility. A must for anyone trying to tell Sizzler from Shockwave.

Off Tripod: The Kentucky Kernel is the daily student newspaper at the University of Kentucky, but don't hold that against this site. It's one of the best-designed sites I've seen, there's some great photography, and the opinions section is always interesting. News is pretty dull though -- Kentucky's a quiet state.

On Tripod: The Alternative (Spring) Break is a weekly column faxed in Andrew Dean Nystrom, as he travels through central and southern Mexico. The best thing about this column is that Andrew is a Tripod member and a gung-ho campus representative.

http://www.QuebecScience.qc.ca/

This French-language science 'zine has been ripping it up on the Web since the beginning of 1995. There's quite a bit of free browsing in each issue -- at least one complete article and loads of summaries, but to get it all you'll have to subscribe to the paper edition. Zappez-y!

As much as I get annoyed by huge signature files on all the email I received, I will always have a soft spot for creative Ascii art. The Figlet Ascii Font Converter is a really innovative page for making Ascii art. It converts whatever you type to a Ascii art font of your choice.
