Did your military background and strong religious beliefs help you
overcome that defeat?
Yes. Being in the military for 22 years helped me understand that there's
always going to be losses and gave me the self-discipline to run a campaign.
My faith is such that I happen to believe that the good Lord has a higher
purpose for all of us and that we're supposed to use our gifts and talents in
the best way we can. And if you've done that, there's nothing to be
ashamed of.
